ALL FOR LOVE

ABOUT

John Dryden, Poet Laureate at the end of the 17th Century, rewrote William Shakespeare’s Anthony and Cleopatra with his masterpiece All for Love or The World Well Lost.

The Dutch poet Benno Barnard adapted the play and made of it a kind of high mass of passion and decadence, written in an elaborate style.
All for Love was selected for the Theatre Festival 1993.

Having read the theory of Archetypes by Jung I learned about the ritual theatre which takes man and the origin of mankind as its subjects. By reading Jung I understood that everybody is carrying their ancestors with them. I realised then that All for Love was a kind of mythical score… In a society where the individual runs around aimlessly and lonely the theatre functions as a meeting place where one can rediscover the ritual of reunification and contemplation. The theatre as a way to oneself… (LP in 1992)
